What this paper is about

Edit What this paper is about Content

Kia ora, a very warm welcome to LCOMM301 - Professional Speaking.

This paper will help you build confidence with both verbal and written communication. It will also help you develop the competencies needed for communicating in front of groups and/or audiences, which is a useful and transferable skill for your career. You will be better prepared for presentations at university, as well as in professional settings and help with your written work too.

The paper will help you to develop tactics to increase your confidence and minimize any anxiety over speaking. It aims to provide you with the key skills and competencies for effective public speaking. Students over the past decades have noted that an additional benefit to completing this course is an understanding of yourself and managing your emotions/self.

This highly practical paper focuses on the skills, principles, and practices of developing and delivering professional speeches and presentations. Participants gain extensive practice in analysing, writing, and presenting speeches across a wide range of professional purposes and contexts.

N.B. The first two speeches will be delivered in a live situation, preferably face-to-face. If you have a good reason for doing the assessment via zoom during the workshop session time, please contact me as soon as possible via email cwootten@waikato.ac.nz to organise this for you.

For more details, please see Moodle.
